MICHELLE
YANCY
 |
My name is Michelle Yancey and I have been teaching at St.
Joseph Academy since October of 1996. I began when another
teacher had to leave due to family concerns. I have taught all
different levels of math, from Pre-Algebra all the way to AP
Calculus. My current classes are Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Honors
Algebra I, and Advanced Math Topics.
I grew up in a very small town in the Appalachian Mountains in
Southwestern Virginia called Grundy. I attended Southwest
Virginia Community College for two years and received an
Associates of Arts and Science in Education. I then attended and
graduated from Clinch Valley College of The University of
Virginia (now known as UVA Wise) in the town of Wise, Virginia,
very near the Cumberland Gap. I hold a Bachelor of Science
degree with a major in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary
Education. It was there that I met my husband of seventeen
years, John, and we now have two beautiful children.
I am currently in my thirteenth year of teaching here at St.
Joseph Academy and have been the Chair of the Math Department
for the last four years. I truly feel that God led me here and
gave me this wonderful community of which to become a part. I
have always wanted to be a teacher and I am being allowed to
live out that dream in Christian-based surroundings, where the
love of God and an outstanding education are two of the most
important things we bring to our students.
